The Japanese diet may be one of the healthiest in the world. Largely plant-based with lots of filling rice, there is little sugar, red meat or fat in the diet, and plenty of fish. Adding Japanese foods to your diet will bring a little diversity to the menu, and help those who want to eat more vegetables and fruit. Sushi, of course, has enjoyed a surge of interest in the past decade or so. Assembly takes work and a light hand, but it’s a satisfying feeling to create and enjoy your own sushi roll, and an impressive trick to present to guests. There are several other staples of the diet that are useful to master, including Japanese steamed rice, dashi, which is a type of stock used as the basis for soup, and miso soup. Any cook with enough patience, and good recipes, can create all of these on their own. Post your favorite Japanese-style recipes here.
