From as young as pre-schoolers, children can help cook simple meals for themselves and their families. If you want to raise a child who enjoys cooking and likes to eat healthy, giving them a hand in meal preparation is a good way to do just that. Don’t assume what children will like. Some kids readily embrace vegetables like broccoli and won’t have anything to do with peanut butter and jelly. Serve it all, and give them a chance to try lots of new things. Think about how food is presented and served rather than worrying so much about what’s in it. Cut sandwiches and vegetables into fun shapes. At meal time, feed small children in courses, beginning with vegetables, so they won’t fill up on repeated helpings of the main course and skip the veggies. Got a child-friendly recipe?
